Team Sarah's Lyca likened to Nora Aunor
MANILA - Lyca Gairanod drew comparisons to critically acclaimed actress and recording artist Nora Aunor after her performance on "The Voice Kids" which aired Saturday.
The 9-year-old, along with other members of Sarah Geronimo's team, Isaac Zamjudio and Lee Mercelino, wowed with the song "Isang Lahi" originally sung by Regine Velasquez.
"Parang ang naalala ko pag nagpe-perform ka ay si Nora Aunor," said coach Lea Salonga to Gairanod.
"Small but terrible na maganda ang boses. Ito ang nagustuhan ko sa iyo, simpleng simple lang ang pagkanta mo, wala ka masyadong ginagawa sa katawan mo pero talagang napakasimple at diretso. 'Yun ang gusto ko," she added.
Coach Bamboo Manalac praised the 2 other young artists for their performances. He, however, ended up picking Gairanod as the winner of the last round of Battles.
"Kung pipili ako, I would go with Lyca," he said.
Geronimo, likewise, chose Gairanod, whom she labeled as a "superstar."
"You're like a superstar. Naglalaro-laro, daldal-daldal diyan pero pag nagre-rehearse na tayo, ibang klase ang focus mo," she said.
After the performance, the phrase "Go Lyca" shot to the top of Twitter's worldwide trends. Netizens were quick to heap praise on one of the youngest contestants remaining, who earlier impressed with her version of the Aegis classic "Halik".
Gairanod will be competing against Darren Espanto, Gab Gomez, Diana Agustin, and 2 others yet to be announced on the show's Sing Offs.
