MANILA, Philippines - The second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno Aquino III at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City on Monday was attended not only by politicians but also by local celebrities.
Leading the pack is Kris Aquino, the President's sister, who was seen wearing an off-white terno (a traditional Philippine dress for women).
She was seated beside Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, her eldest sister. Makati Mayor Junjun Binay, who was previously linked to her, earlier sat next to the television host.
In her official Twitter account, Aquino shared that she was supposed to attend this year's SONA with her friend, comedian-host Vice Ganda.
"Getting ready to go to SONA. I said on Kris TV abangan my escort, how sad, di na pwede si Vice Ganda. Sya pa naman kasama ko sana," she tweeted.
The event was also graced by celebrities turned politicians: boxing champ and Saranggani Rep. Manny Pacquiao with his wife, Jinkee; Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. and his wife, Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado; television host and Leyte Rep. Lucy Torres with her husband, Richard Gomez; and Senator Jinggoy Estrada with his father, former president Joseph "Erap" Estrada.
Stars who did not get the chance to attend this year's SONA expressed their thoughts and expectations via Twitter.
"I'm nervous for today's SONA. Really hope that they can deliver on all the promises. I want the Phil to progress. We have so much potential!," tweeted Cristalle Henares, daughter of popular cosmetic surgeon Vicki Belo.
Television host Bianca Gonzales, for her part, said, "president's SONA at 4PM. whether pro or anti, it'll be good to listen and be aware."
Meanwhile, comedienne Pokwang told abs-cbnNEWS.com via Twitter, "Bigyan naman ng proteksyon ang bawat tax na binabayaran natin at ipaliwanag saan nga ba ginagamit ang pera? Nakakapanghinayang kasi diba?"
