Henares testimony shows ill-gotten wealth, prosecutors say
MANILA, Philippines - Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commisioner Kim Henares' testimony showed that Chief Justice Renato Corona's declarations in his Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN) are highly questionable because his tax declarations do not support them, House prosecutors said on Wednesday.
House Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales III said this proves Corona has ill-gotten wealth.
Rep. Miro Quimbo said they believe that with the evidence, the Senate court will allow them to present more evidence on Corona's alleged hidden wealth.
On the statement of the House minority that the prosecution is bungling the case against Corona, Rep. Erin Tañada said the comment must have come from former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Rep. Sonny Angara also said the minority should first sort out the power struggle within its ranks before criticizing the prosecution.
Coronas' bank accounts
Meanwhile, the prosecution has requested the impeachment court for subpoenas for the bank accounts of Corona and his family.
The subpoenas cover the accounts of Corona and his wife at the Bank of the Philippine Islands, Rizal Commercial Banking Corp., the Philippine National Bank, the Land Bank of the Philippines, and BPI Family Bank.
Aside from these, subpoenas were also requested for Marilou S. Bautista, head of the records section of the National Capital Region office of the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, and to bring the original and certified true copies of all records and documents, as well as the profiles, submitted by the developers pertaining to the following:
1. The Bellagio 1, Fort Bonifacio;
2. Bonifacio Ridge, Spanish Bay Tower;
3. The Columns, Ayala Avenue Makati;
4. Burgundy Plaza, Katipunan Ave. Quezon City; and
6. Mckinley Hill, Megaworld Corporation.
Prosecutors also requested a subpoena for the director of the Company Registration and Monitoring Department of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to bring the original and certified true copies of the Articles of Incorporation (and its amendments, if any) of Basa Guidote Enterprises, Inc. and its general information sheet and audited financial statements for the years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
A subpoena is also being requested for the National Statistics Office personnel officer and to bring with him or her on Thursday the original and certified true copies of the following documents:
1. Certificate of Live Birth of Charina Roco Corona;
2. Certificate of Live Birth of Maria Carla Roco Corona;
