New footbridge in Baclaran inaugurated
MANILA, Philippines – A new pedestrian footbridge connecting Roxas Blvd. sidewalk and Baclaran Redemptorist Church was inaugurated by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday.
Residents have long clamored for a crossing footbridge in the area due to the high volume of pedestrian traffic every Wednesday.
Thousands of devotees visit the Baclaran church every Wednesday, known as “Baclaran Day”.
Parañaque Mayor Jun Bernabe said the footbridge will be of help to the estimated 29,000 daily pedestrians in the area.
MMDA chairman Atty. Francis Tolentino, meanwhile, said the privatization of the footbridges may begin on November. -- Report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
