'Pacquiao's only advantage is his power'
MANILA, Philippines – Undefeated American boxer Timothy Bradley Jr. feels he can match up with Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao in nearly every aspect of the boxing game.
Indeed, Bradley told Examiner’s Granville Ampong that Pacquiao’s only advantage is his power.
“The boxing fans know when I come in the ring, I am always in pretty good shape. I bring a lot into the ring. I am young. I have great power and speed. I can move in the ring competitively,” Bradley said.
“They know I have the skills to beat Pacquiao. At the end of the day, I know the only advantage he has on me is his power,” he added.
Bradley said that because Pacquiao has one-punch knockout power, “he is dangerous in any time on any point in the ring.”
Pacquiao has a record of 53 wins, three defeats and two draws, with 38 victories coming by knockout. Bradley, meanwhile, is undefeated through 28 career fights but only has 12 knockout wins.
But Bradley said he is prepared to deal with Pacquiao’s power inside the ring.
“My defense is good enough to deal with anybody’s power,” he said. “And I feel I would be able to isolate him with my defense and my footwork as well.”
Bradley said he expects Pacquiao to be “slightly quicker” than he is, but added that “I am pretty quick myself, too.”
He added that his size is an advantage, as he is “way bigger than Pacquiao.” Bradley will be moving up to the welterweight division to fight Pacquiao, but he says he is comfortable at that weight class.
Bradley has also been studying Pacquiao’s last five fights in an attempt to find the Filipino’s weaknesses.
“On June 9, I will be the best fighter in the world, hands down,” he declared. “You know, Pacquiao has displayed his greatness over the last seven years. It’s tough to see a new face of boxing. I actually believe it’s going to be me.”
