Tilapia named 'Gloria' considered pests
MANILA - A type of tilapia which has been named after former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is considered a pest by fishpond owners in Bataan.
They said the black chin tilapia or tilapiang gloria eat the food of other fish. Westly Rosario, executive director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Dagupan, said the tilapia was named after former President Arroyo because of its small size and black markings.
Fishpond owners said the public do not like to eat tilapiang gloria. An official of the Bataan school of fisheries said the tilapia can be used in fish spas.
