MANILA - As a new councilor in a Batangas municipality, this woman had to attend a seminar in UP about lawmaking.

She stayed in the home of a fellow councilor in Quezon City with another councilor, who allegedly raped her.

She said she woke one morning with the man already on top of her.

She resisted and fought him and eventually managed to escape.

On Thursday, with her lawyers and members of women's group Gabriela, the councilor filed rape charges before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office.

The victim's lawyer said the councilor and her family hesitated over filing a case because the alleged attacker is an influential politician in Batangas.

Batangas Governor Vilma Santos has vowed to help the victim's family who now fears for their safety.
